Handcrafted jewellery, designed to be worn
The sweetest words have less enchantment over a woman
than a silent jewel.
(Berber proverb)
Creativity blossoms when Maurizio and Alessandra meet, in 1991: he is a goldsmith, she studies at university and has a passion for painting and drawing. The die is cast. From their union in life springs the energy that will give rise to a new activity of high craftsmanship: “La Perla Gioielli”, which opens in Lucca in 1999, in Via Sant’Andrea, with a poetic, markedly retro window in 1920s style — an era which, according to Alessandra, is among the most beautiful not only for jewellery, but also for architecture and design (above all in her beloved Versilia).
Since then it has been a crescendo of research and creativity, a bubbling of ideas, a succession of ever-different collections, all designed by Alessandra (who draws inspiration here and there, from the ginkgo biloba of the garden — a symbol of resilience — to the floral motifs of the ancient Lucca silks) and made by hand with precision and patience by Maurizio; for them a jewel must be able to convey emotion, be created with care and love, designed to be worn, “lived”, as an added value to everyday life. The creations of Alessandra and Maurizio have simple, non-“baroque” lines and volumes marked by lightness; a perfect example is the Filo di Luce collection, in which thin, luminous lines embrace enveloping, essential shapes, just as we can also see in the brand’s logo, which gathers, in a few elegant lines, the sun, the moon and the heart.
Alessandra and Maurizio prefer and “cultivate” the physical shop more and more, rather than the online channels: because their jewel must be explained, told in person. It is not a simple mass-produced and packaged product, ready to be shipped; theirs are unique pieces or, in any case, in limited number (as in the case of the collections). This pair of artisans loves the human relationship with the customers, who come trustingly to the boutique-workshop with ideas to realise and dreams to bring out of the drawer.
