A story of love and ceramics
Federica and Stefano: an ancient craft that never goes out of fashion, an artisan business of great quality, a life together, three children. It can be done. Even today.
Stefano Gambogi began as a sculptor, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Towards the end of his academic path, however, he realises that working by subtraction (sculpting by removing material to create the figure) does not suit him. He wants to add, not take away; he wants to build, and ceramics will give him the chance to do so. As he himself says: “I chose this path because it is the one that chose me. My life is ceramics.” Federica Cipriani, born into an artistic family and raised drawing, studies painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and, after graduating, works as a restorer. One day in December 2004, at a craft market, Federica buys a ceramic jug from Stefano; they do not yet know it, but something magical is beginning… After becoming a couple in life, in 2008 they become one professionally too, giving birth to Rossoramina and setting out on a new path: that of “making the useful beautiful”.
Of the two, Stefano is the “arm”: after carefully choosing the clay, he kneads it by hand, creates the shapes, the volumes, the pieces, which, once made, pass to Federica. She is the “mind”: she paints, decorates; she has even brought engraving into ceramics. Every piece is designed and produced exclusively by them, going so far as to recycle leftover clay and glazes, giving life to a virtuous circle that is rare in their sector. Thanks in part to meeting Federica, Stefano’s art moves almost entirely out of street markets and into shops and showrooms; orders from Italian and foreign buyers increase.
The journey continues and in 2011 Rossoramina opens its official workshop (with an adjoining showroom) in Segromigno in Piano. The work intensifies, orders increase further, and opening the kiln continually offers new surprises. Instead of relying on ready-made ones, Stefano and Federica create their own colours, to have a unique, personal palette.
In 2018, an unexpected surprise: Rossoramina is noticed by Galbani France, which will shoot a commercial in Lucca, right at Stefano and Federica’s home, with their ceramics as the star of the table. 2018 is also the year the couple opens their own shop-workshop, in Lucca of course, in the intimate and welcoming setting of Chiasso Barletti. A small boutique where you feel at home as soon as you walk in, where even the wardrobe has a moving story to tell; where the visitor is surrounded by a garden that never fades, by a forest of magical golden animals.
The story of Stefano and Federica shows us the ideal of the self-made man (and woman, in this case) in a gentle, romantic, welcoming key.
